7^th Ziemassvetku Judo Tournament, Aluksne, Latvia

Only one Moberly Judo Club member participated in the 7^th Ziemassvetku Judo Tournament in Aluksne, Latvia, this last weekend. This was an excellent competition with participants from Belarus, England, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, and several regions of Russia. John Jayne did not enter in the 1997 and younger age band, but instead chose to enter in the two older age bands: the 1993-1994-1995 and the 1995-1996-1997 age bands. John Jayne won Gold at -38 kg in the 1995-1996-1997 age band, and won BRONZE at -38 kg in the 1993-1994-1995 age band. In the 1993-1994-1995 age band John had the same Russian boy in the semi-final that he lost to by an arm lock in the semi-final last year (see 6^th Ziemassvetku Judo Tournament, Aluksne, Latvia). This time John won by ippon with two wazaris in just over one minute. In the final John met the Russian boy who won Gold in the -34 kg class last year. John won 5/0.
