6th Ziemassvetku Judo Tournament, Aluksne, Latvia

Only one Moberly Judo Club member participated in the 6th Ziemassvetku Judo Tournament in Aluksne, Latvia, this last weekend. This was a large competition with participants from Belarus, England, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, and several regions of Russia. The level was exceptionally high. John Jayne won Gold at u32 kg in the 1996 and younger category. There were 33 boys in this category and many were very good. John did not win easily. Then later in the day John won BRONZE at u34 kg in the 1994-1995-1996 category. There were 29 boys in this category. John lost in the semi final by an arm lock to the same boy from Novgorod, Russia, that he threw for ippon in St Petersburg in May, who went on to win the Bronze Medal in St Petersburg. John won the Silver Medal in that competition.
