This competition had two age categories: Under 17 Boys (1993 - 1995) and Under 17 Girls (1993 and later), and Under 15 Boys (1995 and later). There were participants from Belarus, England, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania,Slovakia, Ukraine and Russia. There were many boys and girls from Japan. John Jayne was the only competitor from Moberly. He won the Gold Medal in the U15 age band at -42 kg. There were no restrictions on throwing techniques and arm locks were allowed. Strangles were not allowed. John had five matches, winning three by ippon (including the semi-final and final) and two by wazari. There were 26 boys in his draw, including boys from the Japanese and Georgian Teams. The U17 age band was held on Friday. John was, unfortunately, not able to arrive in time to compete in this age band. The competition was followed by an excellent Training Camp.
