One member of the Moberly Judo Club, John Jayne, participated in the 15^th Warsaw Judo Open. This is one of the year's premier competitions in Eastern Europe. It is the largest competition of the year in Poland and is a selection even for the 2013 Polish National Teams for Cadets and Juniors. There were 1111 participants, 365 from abroad (86 from Russia) coming from 20 countries.

The competition had three age bands for men and women: U14 (2000-2001), U17 (1997-1999) and U20 (1994-1999). John Jayne entered at -90 kg in the U20 age band. He won Gold. There were 17 entries in the draw. John got a bye in the first round won all four fights by ippon. In the final John beat the German boy who got 5th in the Cadet Worlds in Miami in 2013 and Gold in the Bremen Masters in 2013. John had beaten him before in Teplice this year. He is the only boy to beat this year's Russian Cadet World and European Champion at -90 kg in a Cadet European Cup this year.

In the semi-final John beat the Latvian who won Silver in the EYOF in 2011 at -81 kg and Bronze in the Latvian Senior Nationals at -90 kg last October.

The Lithuanian that got Silver this year in the European Cadets in Tallinn and Bronze in the European Cadets in 2012 in Bar, got 5th Place.

The Polish boy that won Gold in the European Cadet Championships in 2010 at -81 kg, got 5th Place. The Polish boy that got Gold last year in this event at -90 kg did not place.

John, although born in 1997, decided not to compete in the Cadet division.
