John Jayne competed in Teplice, Czech Republic, on the weekend. He had five fights, winning three by ippon, including the final against a Bronze medalist in the European Cadet Championships in Bar, Montenegro, last year, to win the Gold medal at -90 kg. Seven of the top ten ranked cadet boys in the EJU Cadet Ranking List at -90 kg at the end of last year were in the draw. There were 714 participants from 35 countries. There were 32 competitors in the-90 kg weight class. John is ranked first in -90 kg in the European Judo Union Cadet Ranking List. This is only the second time that a British boy has won a Gold Medal in the Czech European Cadet Cup since it began in 2004. The first was won by Ashley MacKenzie, who started his judo career at Moberly, at -50 kg in 2005.
