2013 European Cadet Cup, Zagreb, Croatia

John Jayne entered the 2013 European Cadet Cup in Zagreb at the weekend in the -90 kg weight class. There were 34 boys in his draw. He got a bye in the first round and won each of his first three matches by ippon and then lost his fourth (the semi-final) by ippon to the EJU 9th Ranked Cadet from Hungary, although John was leading (by 0 shidos to 1 shido) and dominating up until the final minuite. In John’s second fight he beat the Belgium National Champion, who is ranked 14 in Europe. In his third fight he beat the Romanian National Champion, who is ranked 2 in Europe at the moment. In the Bronze medal match John dominated every aspect of the match against the Croatian, who is ranked 24 in Europe and who threw the 8th ranked Italian for ippon to get to the Bronze medal match. Unfortunately the table judges over ruled the referee and gave a yuko when John landed on his stomach in his opponent’s only throw attempt of the match. His oppenent accumulated only three shidos inspite of breaking most every new rule numerous times.
