22^nd International Judo Championship, Alytus, Lithuania

This large competition had two age categories: Under 17 Boys (1994 - 1996) and Under 17 Girls (1994 and later), and Under 15 Boys (1996 and later). There were participants from Belarus, England, Estonia, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova Poland, Romania, Russia and the Ukraine.

This year the Moberly Judo Club had three participants:Kieran Davin, John Jayne and Laura Tapping. This was John's third year at this competition. In 2008 he won Gold in the U15 at -38 kg and in 2009 he won Gold in the U15 at -42 kg. This was the first year he entered both the U17 and U15. He won Gold at -50 kg in the U15 and Silver in the U17. Laura won Bronze at -63 kg in the U17. Kieran won Bronze at -38 kg in the U15.

In the U17 age band at -50 kg John had in his draw the boy that beat him in the final in the Warsaw Open U15 last October and also a Bronze medalist from John's weight class (-46 kg) from the Warsaw Open U15. The U15 Warsaw Gold medalist placed 5^th this time. The boy that John lost to in the final of the U17 age band won Gold in the U17 age band at -50 kg in the Warsaw Open, and won Silver in the EJU European Cup Top Cadets Tour U17 Zagreb - 2010 (CRO) on March 6/7.

In the U15 age band at -38 kg Kieran lost in the semi-final to the eventual Gold medalist, who won Gold at -34 kg in this competition last year. This boy won Bronze in the Warsaw Open last October at -38 kg.

In the U17 age band at -63 kg. Laura lost to the eventual Gold medalist from Belarus, who won Bronze in the EJU European Cup Top Cadets Tour U17 in Kiev this January.

The competition was followed by an excellent Training Camp.
