One member of the Moberly Judo Club participated in the 11th Warsaw Judo Open. This is one of the year's premier competitions for boys in Eastern Europe. The competition had four age bands: U13, U15, U17 and U20. John Jayne entered at -46 kg in both the U13 age band and in the U15 age band. He won Gold in U13 and Silver in U15. In each of the two age bands he had five matches. There were 28 entries in the U13 and 31 entries in the U15. In the U15 John won his first match against a boy from the Ukraine, his second against a boy from Poland, his third against a boy from Germany, his fourth against a boy from Belgium, and lost the final by a yuko to nil to a boy from Latvia. John did not enter in the U17 age band. The boy that John beat in the quarter final of the U15 age band won Bronze in U17 and the boy that that boy beat in the round of 16 in U15 won Silver in the U17. There were 803 participants from 97 clubs in 14 countries countries represented: Belarus, Belgium, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden and the Ukraine.
