Bremen Open 2008, Bremen, Germany

This was a large well run competition with participants from Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and one from Great Britain. The age bands were U11, U14, U17 and U23 --- all for both men and women. John Jayne fought in both the U14 and U17 age bands at -43 kg. On Saturday he won Gold in the U17 group, getting a bye in the first round, then winning the next two rounds by ippon, and winning the final by a wazari, yuko and a koka to nil. On Sunday he lost his first match in the U14 group on a referee's decision, in spite of completely dominating the match. He fortunately had the same boy in the bronze medal match, which he won decisively by a wazari to nil.
