One member of the Moberly Judo Club participated in the 10th Warsaw Judo Open. This is one of the year's premier competitions for boys in Eastern Europe. The competition had four age bands: U13, U15, U17 and U20. This was the first year that there was an U13 age band. John Jayne entered at -39 kg in the U13 age band and and at -38 kg in the U15 age band. He won Gold in both categories, winning all of his matches by ippon. In each of the two age bands he had a bye in the first round followed by four matches. This was an improvement on last year when John lost in the first round in the U15 band to a boy that did not reach the semifinal. In one of the finals John threw the Bronze Medalist from his category last year for ippon. There were eleven countries represented: Belgium, England, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, Russia and the Ukraine. The level of Judo was very high.
