With 1,412 participants from 163 judo clubs in 20 countries, this is one of the largest, if not the very largest, competition in Europe for children. It was held in a beautiful sports centre near Frohnleiten in the mountains just north of Graz. Moberly Judo Club had one entry, John Jayne. On Sunday he first won the U13 age band at -40 kg. There were 40 boys in his category. He had six fights, winning five by ippon, including the final. Both Bronze Medalists came from John's half of the draw. Immediately after winning that final, he began the U15 age band, also at -40 kg. In this category there were 26 boys. He placed 7th in this age band. He lost his third match to the eventual Gold medal winner. He won one fight in the repechage and then lost to the Bronze medal winner. That was John's eleventh fight of the day. The countries represented were Austria, Belgium, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland and the Ukraine. England placed 15th out of 20 in the Country Medal Table. Moberly Judo Club placed 53rd out of 163 in the Team Medal Table. RESULTS U 13 Boys GOLD -40 kg John Jayne U 15 Boys 7th -40 kg John Jayne |
