Four members were also selected by the GB World Class Start Program to compete in the International Tournament in Rouen. The four returned with 2 silvers and a bronze and one member also made the trip to Wales to take part in the Gower Open. John Jayne, 9, fought in the Gower Open on Saturday. He took part in the combined u34/38k category and excelled himself with another gold medal winning performance. John also took part in the Ford Split Grade on Sunday and had to be at his best to overcome stiff opposition on his way to the final of Group 3 u30k. The final was extremely tense and after scoring a yuko on his opponent the final was settled by the disqualification of his opponent for a deliberate head butt. Reece Morgan 11, and Petar Vlahovic 8, were in exceptional form in the u34k category. For Reece it was his first appearance in the u34k. Both boys have improved greatly in recent weeks and both pulled of excellent techniques on their way to the semi-finals. Reece was unfortunately thrown for ippon with an excellent counter, but made short work of his bronze medal contest, whereas Petar was undone in the final by a shido awarded to his opponent half way through the final. His resultant silver was a great result. Tyrell Clark-Harewood fought in the u38k and started very well with typically determined displays. His semi final opponent was more determined and eventually won the contest on flags. Tyrell claimed the bronze securing osei-komi early in the contest. Ramon Alexander moved up to the u42k, where he and Kyle Clark-Harewood made short work of the opposition to contest the final. The final was an all action affair with both boys showing great skill and determination. It went into golden score where Kyle pulled of a lightening fast seoi-nage to score a yuko and claim the gold. Robert Atherton fought in the u50k category. He won his first contest in fine style but was unable to keep his concentration in his next contest. The defeat left Robert needing two victories to win the bronze. He battled hard and eventually picked up the two wins to take the bronze. Rennel Rutty was in typically devastating form in the o55k. He showed a great variety of techniques on his way to gold, winning his final in golden score. Adam Conroy moved up to the u46k and started very well. He showed his great level of fitness throwing both his opponents for ippon in golden score. But the new category proved a little two much and in his semi final, another golden score situation saw Adam get caught for a yuko and had to settle for a bronze. Ethan Caprice had to compete in Group 4, despite still being a 4th mon. But this made little difference to Ethan who executed an awesome pick up to claim the gold in the over 73k. Kelly Alexander claimed the fifth and final gold, with another victory in the u63k category. Lamar Joseph, Tyrell Corriette and Ella Carter-Allen missed out on medals but will have gained further experience. Meanwhile in France, World Class Start players, Aaron Turner and David Logan won Silvers in the u38 and u60k respectively, and Dominique Ellis took a Bronze in the u57k. Isaac Carter-Allen in the u46k unfortunately broke a toe and was unable to continue. |
