This competition had three age categories: Under 21 (1988 and later), Under 17 (1992 and later) and Under 15 (1994 and later). There were participants from Belarus, England, Estonia, Finland, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine and Russia. There were many participants from Japan. John Jayne was the only competitor from Moberly. He won the Gold Medal in the U 15 age band at -38 kg. There were no restrictions on throwing techniques and arm locks were allowed. Strangles were not allowed. John had five matches, none of which were easy. There were 29 boys in his draw. He won his first four matches by ippon. The final was very close. He won by a koka in Golden Score. The Japanese boy in his category was on the other side of the draw and did not reach the final. Elvinas Rupinskas, who is a member of the Stratford Judo Club, won Gold in the U 17 category at -45 kg. Akhil Bist, who is a member of the Ealing Judo Club, won Bronze in the U 15 category at -42 kg.
