International Antwerp Open, Ekeren, Belgium

The International Antwerp Open took place this weekend in Ekeren, Belgium. This is probably Belgium's most prestigious event of the year, with over 1000 participants from 20 countries. The Belgian Judo Federation designates it as a "National Selection Tournament".

John Jayne was the only participant from the Moberly Judo Club. He competed at -38 kg in the U15 (boys born in 1994 and 1995) age band. He had a bye in the first round, then won the next three rounds by ippon. In the final he suffered a disappointing loss, by a koka with seconds remaining in the match.
