British National Team Championships, K2 Crawley, Sussex

Eleven Moberly Judo Club members were selected to represent the London Area at the National Team Championships at the K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley.

Kelly Alexander, Ella Carter-Allen and Siobhan Lawrence were instrumental in the London Area Girls Team winning the gold, while Reece Morgan, Tyrell Clarke-Harewood, Ramone Alexander, Kyle Clarke-Harewood, Adam Conroy, Isaac Carter-Allen, David Logan and Ethan Caprice were in the London Area Boys Team that had to settle for the bronze.

The Girls team were drawn against the teams from the Northern Area and the Western Area in the pools. The team triumphed with a 7-4 victory over the Northern Area and an emphatic 9-1 win over the Western Area, to set up a semi-final with the much fancied Northern Home Counties Team. With the girls down 4-2, with three contests remaining, Kelly won a very close contest to make it 4-3. Ella threw her opponent to level the score and a walkover for Siobhan meant the girls made it to the final for the first time.

In the final the Girls were once again faced with the Western Area and another convincing victory by 8-2 meant the Girls were the National Team Champions.

The Boys team were hoping to make it a 6th title in a row. However, with much of the team making their debuts in this event they were held 4-4 against the Northern Home Counties but were beaten by 40 points to 32. The second contest in the pool was against the team from the Northern Area. An 8-3 victory was enough to give the London Area a semi-final contest against the Southern Area Team. After the first 5 contests the London Area were 3-1 up, but the Southern Area roared back to win 7-3, leaving the London Area team shell shocked and having to settle for the bronze. The Southern Area went on to win the gold.
