One member of the Moberly Judo Club participated in the 14^th Warsaw Judo Open. This is one of the year's premier competitions in Eastern Europe. It is the largest competition of the year in Poland and is a selection even for the 2013 Polish National Teams for Cadets and Juniors. There were over 1100 participants from 19 countries.

The competition had three age bands for men and women: U14 (1999-2000), U16 (1997-1999) and U19 (1994-1998).  John Jayne entered at -90 kg in both the U16 age band and in the U19 age band. He won Gold in U16 and 5th Place in U19. He had four matches in the U16, winning all by ippon, and five matches in the U19, winning the first three and losing the last two. There were 24 entries in the U19 -90 kg and 10 entries in the U16 -90 kg.

The standard was high as in past years. The Silver medalist at -81 kg from the 2012 European Cadet Cup in Tver, Russia, was in John's U16 draw. He lost in the first round to the boy that John beat in the second round. In the U19 John beat the 2010 European Cadet Champion at -81 kg in the quarter final (by a yuko in the last five seconds of golden score). That boy beat the the Bronze medalist at -90 kg in the 2012 European Cadet Championships in the previous round. This is the sixth year that John has entered the Warsaw Judo Open. His results are
