35^th Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir, Eindhoven, The Netherlands

The 35^th Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir Judo Tournament was one of the top level competitions of the year for juniors in western Europe. It was organised for judoka from 12 to under 20 years of age and was divided into three age categories: under 15, under 17 and under 20. There were over 1,700 participants from 10 countries.

Moberly had six participant this year; Ed Almond, Tommy Almond, Jordan Butler, John Jayne, David Logan and Dominick Mathurin. Ed, Tommy, Jordan and Dominick each lost their only fight. David reached the semi-final, but lost the next two matches to place 5^th. John lost in the final in Golden Score.

This is the third year that John has won a Silver medal in this competition in the under 15 age band. Four years ago (at age 9) John won Silver in the -34 kg weight class, two years ago he won Silver in the -42 weight class and this year Silver in the -60 kg weight class. John was the only boy from Great Britain to win a medal this year in the under 15 age band.
