RESULTS

Boys born in 1997 and 1998
GOLD -42 kg John Jayne

On Saturday John won the Gold Medal in the -42 kg category in the 1997-1998 age band. There were twenty nine boys in this category. John won the final by first scoring two yukos, then a wazari and finally an ippon.

Three years ago John won the Silver Medal in the 1994-1995 age band at -29 kg, two years ago he won the Silver Medal in the 1995-1996 age band at -32 kg and last year he won Silver medals in both the 1996-1997 age band and 1994-1995 age band at -38 kg.

On Sunday John entered the 1995-1996 age band at -42 kg. There were thirty four boys in this category. He had a bye in the first round, beat a Russian boy in the second round and a boy from Kazahkstan in the third round, before losing to the eventual Gold medal winner from St Petersburg by a yuko in Golden Score in the forth round. John then lost in the repechage to a boy from Cheshnia. The final lasted less than 10 seconds. The boy that won the Silver medal was the boy that John beat in the semi-final last year.

John has now won eight medals in major competitions in Russia over the past three years: three Golds, four Silvers and one Bronze. Two Gold and one Silver were in his own age band, one gold and two Silvers were one age band above his, and two Silvers and the Bronze were two age bands above his.

There were about 900 participants this year.
