The Home Countries (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland & Wales) nominated players to participate in a Trials event on Saturday 15th March at Sheffield EIS. England nominated three players per weight category, and Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales each nominated one player per weight category.

The trials ran on a pool to pool basis. The players who placed first and second in the trials took part in a 'best-of-three fight off'. That is, the top two players had a second contest, and if the result was different, a third contest was used to determine the overall winner. These fight offs also took place on 15th March. The results from this event formed the basis for the selection of the team for the 2008 European Cadet Championships.

The Selection Panel consisted of the Director of World Class Programmes, a representative from each home country and an independent observer. The Director of World Class Programmes chaired the selection meeting.

The selection panel did reserve the right not to select a player for any individual category, if they felt that the player was not of a suitable standard for this level of event. They also reserved the right not to select a player who they felt was unsuitable as a team member and ambassador for the BJA.
